Frequently Asked Questions

As we get a lot of questions on how to pimp Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants I thought I would add some to the blog.

1. Will it damage my hearing aids or cochlear implant if I pimp them?

As long as you are careful when pimping your Hearing Aids or Cochlear Implants and not use any water or glue, it is ok to add things to them.  We have had audiologist’s say it is a fantastic idea.

The Audiologist at the NDCS did a blog post in June about customising hearing aids and cochlear implants which you can find here http://kidsaudiologist.info/2012/06/22/customising-hearing-aids-and-cochlear-implants/

2. Where can I purchase stickers or nail foils?

These can be purchased from any good retailers, amazon, claire’s accessories and also Ebay sell them.  They are reasonably priced and you can purchase bulk sets.

3.  What printable paper is the best to use?

You can use Self Adhesive Clear Sticker Paper or white sticker paper depending on your design.  For best results print out as photo quality.

4. How do I clean the hearing aids or cochlear implants of the stickers/residue?

When removing your stickers, I just use my nails and peel them off, the residue will come off quite easily once if you rub gently over the area, a quick wipe with a baby wipe and dried with a tissue will see them ready for more pimping.

5. Can I use Nail Polish or similar to customise my Hearing Aids or Cochlear Implants?

It is advisable not to use anything like Nail Polish as this can damage the hearing aid or cochlear implant and also if you have NHS hearing aids the Audiology department will not approve of you using it.
